Santa Cruz panel finalizes vacation rental restriction advice.
Should proposed new Santa Cruz regulations related to reducing the city’s vacation rental stock become law, scofflaws will be heavily fined.
Owners living on site would be the city’s only new vacation rental units allowed to go on the market.
The Santa Cruz Planning Commission early Friday established provisions for a new city law aimed at “preserving and protecting neighborhood character and long-term rental housing stock in Santa Cruz.” The draft law will require Santa Cruz City Council approval to go into effect and comes amid a partial ban on new vacation rental registration.
City officials estimate Santa Cruz has more than 100 unregistered and non-taxpaying vacation rentals.
