When you travel it is always great to get something for free, especially because you have paid so much for flights and hotels at that point.
Here are my 5 tips to get freebies when traveling
1). Airline Upgrades- once you arrive at the airport go to the ticket counter and ask if there are any availbilities in first class. Sometimes they will accommodate you, if not they may tell you to ask at the gate. Try and get first in line at the gate, even if you have to wait a while. *Try and dress nice and be polite, ask to be considered if there are any seats open in a better class seat. If you are traveling for a special occasion (like your Honeymoon or Anniversary) don't forget to mention it. ;) Typically, the upgrade will be made last minute once they know who hasn't shown up for their flight, so stay within ear shot of the gate.
2). Hotel Room Upgrades - A few days before you arrive at the hotel, give them a call to confirm your reservation, and tell them you are there celebrating a special occasion (so they put it in your guest notes if they keep this sort of thing). Instead of asking right off the bat for the suite or best room in the hotel, request a room with a view or a higher floor, they often say at this point they will make a note of it. Once you arrive, show
up dressed nicely and again, be polite and friendly and remind them at check in your special occasion and if they don't mention an upgrade, ask again if they have great room with a view, since you are celebrating and see if they upgrade you.
3). Free Food - We try and book hotels that offer free breakfast. This just makes it easier to not have to think about or pay for the first meal of the day. We also weren't shy to tell every restaurant we ate it it was our Honeymoon, and without fail we recieved a free app or dessert wherever we ate. One location comped a round of drinks! Always play up those special occasions!
4.). Free Samples - While shopping while traveling we often stopped in places where things like handmade soaps and lotions were being made. I usually asked for a sample and received one. I did the same each time I went to a spa, and they seemed happy to accommodate me. This also worked in small markets and with food items like candies and chocolate. Just have to ask!
5). Free Wifi- Almost always you are set at the hotel, but what about when you are traveling in another country and are on the move sightseeing? Often times you can find free wifi at bus stations, museums, malls, an Apple Store, Starbucks, or restaurants/bars where it is posted (otherwise they may make you make a purchase as wifi is for customers only). You can also use an app. I suggest Wifi Finder or Free Wifi Finder.
Good luck and happy travels!! ✈
