Hey everyone! So today marks my one week anniversary with Steemit! Yeah- thank you so much for making me a part of this community! In order to celebrate, I thought- let's give all serious conversations a skip today and let's talk about something which everyone loves: travelling abroad!
So I'm going to Mexico in 3 weeks, however, this time last year I was in Malta. Now, whenever I told anybody about Malta, they would look kind of confused and ask where it is/what it is/is it a type of dance/can they eat it? Well-no. Malta is a little island off the coast of Italy, so the architecture and the culture obviously has a very strong Italian influence, however, what makes it unique is that it has a strong Arabic influence too. So I loved it, and I was going through all of my pictures this morning, do you want to see?
This first picture was taken at their biggest fish market-Marsaxlokk Bay. Any type of seafood you can dream of-caught two minutes ago. This is definitely a big must see for all the seafood lovers!
Next, the Capital- Valletta. What makes Malta special is that so many of the old architecture hasn't been touched or remodeled-it's completely authentic and insanely romantic.
Another picture which I feel really captures the essence of Malta- that's me practicing my photography skills.
Okay, now as much as I love architecture and culture, at heart- I'm really an ocean lover and beach bum. So when my family asked me what I felt like doing for my 22nd birthday, I knew the perfect day would be to take a boat out to Gozo and Comino. These are two little islands where you can swim and snorkel all day long- a MUST when visiting Malta.
One thing that was kind of cool and unique to me is that Malta doesn't have a lot of beaches. Although everybody swims because it's so hot, they kind of just hang out on these large areas of rock, and then jump into the ocean. I don't know-this might be a very European thing but since I'm from South Africa I thought it was so different, but still really fun! So the one day, everybody went on their own little adventure and I urged my mom to swim with me. We had lots of fun.
Yeah, here you can see what I mean. That blonde little lady on the right is my darling mom! What a champ!
And then finally, bitches in bikinis.
Guys- the amount of 'take me back' syndrome I'm experiencing now is crazy. I can't wait to see you again some time soon Malta. But for now- I have to focus on my Cancun trip. Sunscreen, bikinis and flip flops here I come!
