Traveling through Italy it seems almost impossible not to see a coffee bar on the corner. On the highways they are these pit stops that in my opinion serve some of the best coffee in the world!
There's a saying that some of the best coffees are served in Italy, so I wanted to take the opportunity to experience it myself. There are so many coffe bars. where do I start?
Which is the best brands?
What makes the coffee special?
These are just a few of the questions that I've asked myself so I've decided to ask the locals.
I asked one bartender why the coffee tasted differently in Italy than anywhere else in the world.
He mentioned to me that it's the Italian water. I wasn't very impressed with the answer, but I did ask other locals, and they all seem to give me the same answer.
So I decided in embarking on a personal journey in determining where the best tasting coffee is in Italy!
Italy is huge, I have no idea how long this is going to take me, but I'm up for a challenge!
Would you like to join me on my journey?
Punto Chiasso
This is a small town just outside of Como Italy. It is on the border of Italy and Switzerland. Lots of locals, traffic and many tourists. They must be good coffee somewhere around here!
I paid attention to where the locals were having their coffee. One of the things that I've noticed is that the it seems that there's a million different styles of coffee!
I was told that the Italians have somewhere between 20 to 50 styles of coffee!
Someone should have warned me that they will be huge temptations walking into these Italian bars. As you walk in early in the morning you are greeted with the fresh smell of Italian pastries. The smell of freshly brewed coffee immediately boosts your energy.
At this particular bar, as you walk in there's a display of different choices of pastries. You choose your pastry without even talking to the waiter or waitress, then you choose a table and sit down.
The service will come over to serve your coffee or whatever you would like to drink. When you finish dining you just pay for what you ever had.
That was a little strange for me, I thought, is anyone checking me to see how many pastries I am having?
Anyway it seems that it's a normal thing. All the locals were honest. They paid for exactly what they had. I was impressed.
If you want to just a drink maybe a glass of wine or beer. There was a spot at the bar to sit. The even served free appetizers throughout the day.
So I thought I'd just have a coffee but those sandwiches look so good....
In this video I will share with you my impression of the sandwich.
So doing things Italian way you just have to have a coffee after you eat. I couldn't wait to taste it.. smelled so good!
Well that was a pleasant experience I really enjoyed my lunch and coffee.
Join me soon as I take you through out Punto Chiasso and Como as I try determine where the best tasting coffee is in Italy!
