Days after the firm order of President Duterte to shut down and rehabilitate Boracay Island, some local leaders from all the neighboring provinces chose to follow this necessary steps and decided to close some of the tourist destinations from their area. This means more tourist spots are also having a temporary closure to expedite the repair, even if it will cost millions in lost revenue and with the strong opposition of some groups.
But the thing is, whether they should decide for a total shut down or partial closure, I personally believe that business operations in these areas should temporarily cease. So, repair can be carried out efficiently! It’s better to rehabilitate now than later while it can still be saved. It’s better to lose some revenues from tourism now while there’s still hope of redemption than to forever lose our gem. And I’m optimistic that these spots can restart over again to reclaim its spot on the tourism map.
