Yesterday was a day full of excitement, as I trekked to the top of Monte Generoso here in Switzerland. The mountain is a total of 1,704 meters in altitude and requires a hefty hike to reach the mountain's apex.
Please note: The photos are not of the highest quality, as we switched the camera setting from 6 mp to 3 mp to capture more photos. However, future blogs shall contain better, more high quality pictures than featured here, as we have changed the setting back to 6 mp.
The view from a quick pit-stop on our journey upwards
The total trek was not the full 1,704 m, as we drove about half way up the mountain before beginning our hike. Still, 850 m of uphill trekking through dense forest trails is by no means an easy task for the average hiker, such as myself.
When we began our journey, I quickly noticed how crisp and clean the air was, much different than down in the city where the all the hustling and bustling takes place.
There were hardly any dead trees, an interesting point of consideration given the fact that the forest was a thicket of a many varieties.
Protruding roots along the trail from the numerous variety of birch trees
Also, we could hear the birds, but never could we locate where the chirping was originating from. A continuous cuckoo followed us quite a ways up the winding path leading the top of Monte Generoso.
The trek, with about 4 or 5 stops along the way for water/coffee, as well as greeting fellow hikers with dogs passing by, took about 1 hour and 45 minutes or so. At the top there was a restaurant where we stopped to replenish our bodies with fluids and food for energy for the descent down.
The way down, as you can imagine, was much easier than the trek up. The descent only took about 45 minutes or so, as we were sped up by a storm which was brewing at our back's.
Stunning view, overlooking the Lake of Lugano, from the 1,704 m point of Monte Generoso
Nonetheless, the excursion was quite delightful and provided an immaculate view from the zenith of Monte Generoso. Unfortunately, the sky was a little hazy and cloud cover was immense, so Milano was not visible in the distance, but still-- how could one complain?
Tomorrow's post will consist of something very special and I am looking forward to sharing with all of you. It was a first for me and is very important in terms of the community aspect which makes up this platform.
Stay tuned for this unique moment, which I never thought would occur--not in a million years.
