Hello Steemians, this is the fourth instalment of the holiday photo magazine series that I have started titled “Holiday with Me”, here I shall be sharing holiday pictures of the countries that I have visited with you in a sort homage to glossy magazines, high on visuals, short on rhetorics , I shall though be adding a short description of what is going on at the scene, a little bit about the city, what my experiences were etc, as and where appropriate. Enjoy the pictures. Upvote to encourage me, feel free to resteem if you see fit.
Today we visit the lovely city of Istanbul! :). Istanbul is one of the major cities in Turkey, it transverses Bosphorus Strait to bridge Europe and Asia. Istanbul is one of the most historical cities in the world where Christians and Muslims have lived side by side for centuries and there are several historical monuments in the city that bears testament to this.
Come, take my hand as we explore the magical city of Instanbul.
Here we are arriving at our hotel, The Barcelo, a Spanish hotel in the heart of Instanbul
This is a night time view of the popular tourist hotspot "The Blue Mosque"
The Blue Mosque is known colloquially as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque
Here I am having a beer at night in the forecourt of the Blue Mosque, we were pleasantly surprised by how liberal Turkey was. I wish i had videoed this, the sight and sounds of the Blue Mosque at night is truly magical, the place was well lit, there were food carts offering you kebabs and other Turkish delights, you could buy a beer at one of the shops in the side streets, there was Arabian music playing in the background. It was truly a glorious magical experience, something outa the Arabian Nights.
Day time view inside the Blue Mosque, they wouldnt let us inside the Mosque though because we were not suitable dressed, they did offer my partner a scarf to cover her head so that they could let us in but she declined because she did not know how many other people had used the scarf.
This is the forecourt within the Blue Mosque, a funny thing happened shortly after this picture was taken, a bunch of young Arabs came up to us and asked to take a picture with me!, i guess they were not used to seeing people like us and thought maybe I was some Hollywood person!, i wonder what sort of stories they will tell about the pictures when they get back home! :)
Having Arabic coffee at a Turkish coffeehouse, so cliched but had to be done! :)
Let me at that coffee! ... hmmm... yum :)
These pictures were taken in from of the obelisk of an Egyptian Pharaoh called Thutmose III
Night time entertainment in Istanbul, a "magic eight ball man" showing me his party trick by pouring me juice out of the contraption on his back. Arabian Nights stuff.
These pictures were taken outside the Boukoleon Palace. The Boukoleon Palace is one of several Byzantine palaces scattered all around Istanbul (the Byzantine culture refers to Roman excursions in the east), the palace was reported to have been built by Theodosius the second probably in the 5th century
I met the local football team coming back from training
