One of the most memorable parts of our Thailand trip was our stay at Nornnuea @ Inthanon in Ban Luang, Chiang Mai. It is a simple hotel, but what makes it stand out is the feeling it gives. Rather than feeling like a typical hotel, it felt more like staying in a home. That was what I loved most about it. While many hotels focus heavily on having a grand entrance and a formal lobby, this place felt warm and personal from the moment we arrived. It was like entering a home that also happened to have a lovely café inside.
I really liked that concept of combining a hotel and café in one space. It made the atmosphere feel more relaxed and inviting. It did not feel commercial or overly polished in a way that creates distance between guests and staff. Instead, it felt intimate, calm, and sincere. The amazing thing is that during our stay, it seemed like the whole place was run by only two staff members. That alone already made me appreciate the amount of effort they put into everything.
Since it was no longer peak season, there were not many guests around during our stay. But honestly, that did not make the experience feel empty or lacking. If anything, it made the stay even more peaceful. What truly shaped our impression of the place was the hospitality of the staff.
We arrived late for check-in, and one of the staff members, who was only supposed to work until 5 PM, kindly waited for us until we reached the hotel. For me, that was already such a thoughtful gesture. It showed genuine care for guests, and it immediately gave us a very good first impression. Even though it was already late, she still took the time to answer our questions about where we could have dinner and where we could buy the things we needed. It was not just about doing her job. It felt like she genuinely wanted to help us settle in comfortably.
Before she left that evening, she also politely asked us to choose what breakfast we would like for the next morning. She carefully explained the dishes and made sure she got our order right. It was such a small detail, but it made a big difference. That level of attentiveness made us feel very welcome.
The next morning, we went down early to the café for breakfast, and she was already there preparing our meal. It took around 15 minutes before the food was served, and what made it even more impressive was the fact that she was the same staff member who had accommodated us the night before. She was handling the front desk, assisting guests, and also cooking the breakfast. I honestly found that amazing.
And then came the food itself, which truly exceeded my expectations. I was very impressed by the quality of the breakfast. Even from the photos, you can already tell how fresh the ingredients were. The salad greens, tomatoes, and cucumbers looked vibrant and fresh, as if they had just been picked from a farm. It was obvious that they really put effort into preparing the meal, not just in presentation but in quality as well.
What I especially liked was the chili sauce. I think it was made with fish sauce, sugar, and chopped chili. I really enjoyed the balance of flavors. It had that perfect mix of salty, sweet, and a gentle touch of spice. The chili was not too strong, but it had just enough heat to make it very enjoyable.
We ordered the fried rice with pork, and it was served with a fried egg and fresh vegetables on the side. I found that so thoughtful. It was not only delicious but also felt like a well-prepared and balanced meal.
Though the hotel may be small, it is filled with charming corners that make the place feel special. One of my favorite spots was the mini library with its huge window overlooking Wat Phra That Si Chom Tong. That view alone made the stay even more memorable. The location was also excellent because just across the street, we could easily visit the temple and explore the nearby food bazaars.
Nornnuea @ Inthanon may not be a large or luxurious hotel, but it gave us comfort, warmth, and a genuine sense of care. That is something I will always remember.
Hopefully, I will be back in Chom Tong again soon.
