One of the famous products of the cold and dark Sweden is art, from Ingmar Bergman, Greta Garbo (from the world of movies) to paintings and design.
Nordic decoration, Swedish design – you see similar words everywhere in Stockholm City on the streets. Very comprehensible: cold, dark, long winter nights are depressing, the soul needs all possible efforts to brighten.
Very practical, a handy anchor in the subway.
In Stockholm, the subway stations form a large underground art gallery, with “more than 90” stations (from a total of 110) are decorated, with the works of 150 artists.

So, if you travel there, and have enough time, you can buy a daily, weekly or 3-day ticket, and visit almost every station.
Disco lights from the 70’s-80’s? Makes me feel young again.
Some stations seem to be only interesting or nice, others do have some special message, others are copies of some archeological fund.

Garbage from the sea as art. I suppose the message is: stop contaminating the waters!
A commuter train station. Happy colors, happy waiting.
Don’t ask me what is this, please. In summer, the public transport company (SL) is organizing guided tours in the subway.
It’s a statue, animation made by Google Photos.

My “Slow down, tourist” project
Millions and millions of tourists are traveling to the most crowded destinations, like London, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Athene, Roma etc., but only hundreds or thousands to other historical places, beautiful medieval or classic destinations.
Many people are running from one famous monument to other, and from one bar to other, without paying attention to nice or important details. I’m a slow tourist, trying to know less known places, small towns or villages, sometimes everyday’s life of the people. I’m trying to share my experiences with you in this series.
