G'day everyone,
The photo above was taken at Mt Gravatt Lookout, Queensland, Australia. This mountain has attracted climbers since it was deemed a recreational reserve, residents and voluntary labours hand constructed roads and walking tracks up the slopes back in 1893.
1914 large picnic shelters were built on the top of Mt Gravatt to promote the local spot for picnics, it also became a hot spot for car rallies and motorbike events, which were held on the mountain in 1930 and one local champ won the event three time on a four cylinder Idian bike with a sidecar.
The road leading up to the mountaintop was built in 1938 during the depression by unemployed labourers and a log cabin kiosk was built but then later was burnt down in 1938.
The road built in 1938 are the roads we use today to get up to the mountaintop, but today there is a cafe located where the kiosk was located...which has a lovely view of the city and you can enjoy a lovely beverage or food, there is also a playground for the kids.
There is a couple of ways to access the mountaintop you can drive up the mountain with a lovely view of nature and little stops on the way or you could hike your way through Toohey Mountain Reserve with a 360 view of the mountain, also a plus side is being able to smell the native plants and educational billboards.
