Last year we saw that sales drastically increased for recreational vehicle dealers and this year they are still seeing high demand for campers, RVs, motorhomes, boats etc.
Millions of people are planning on taking a vacation this year and for many that means a trip in their RV. A number of camping retailers have already sold out of their camper supply and some companies are seeing billions in backlog demand for the product.
RV Maker Thor Industries is currently seeing a $14.32 billion order backlog
The boom in RV sales started last year and those in the industry say that it has continued to grow. There are many first-time buyers and a growing number of families and individuals getting interested in this version of vacationing.
RV sales have soared around the United States and that might mean that it could take a long time for supply to return to normal. A number of popular companies are already sold-out and facing months of backlog in orders.
"Our suppliers are not even able to keep up with the demand. We have manufacturers in Indiana that are working 24-hour shifts just trying to keep up with the demand of camper sales," - D Hall, owner of USA RV in Raleigh.
“The demand is definitely outweighing the production capabilities, especially with all the shortages,.. We saw an increase around March or April of last year. We sold out of our inventory relatively quick once people started getting out again.” - S. Davis, general manager at Berkeley Outdoors.
Last year it was seen that millennials were more interested in purchasing an RV for themselves, more than any other age demographic today.
Why are people rushing to buy or rent? For some it might be the unique experience that this type of travel provides, there are many reasons why one might want to secure their own camper or RV for travel. And for those who are looking to get one it looks like the line only continues to grow and they could easily be waiting more than a year now to get what they're looking for.
