Liepaja, Northern Fort
In 1890, the construction of a huge fortress and military town began north of the city of Liepaja. The official order to start construction work was issued by the Russian Tsar Alexander III. His son, Tsar Nicholas II, issued a decree to name the new military base in honor of the father’s memory “Port of Emperor Alexander III”. The fortress of the Military camp was built from 1893 to 1906, the main author of the project was an engineer, Major General Ivan Mac-Donald.
