Someone recently asked me what is my favorite place I've traveled.
Tough question!
The small island of Koh Pha Ngan in southern Thailand stands out. The white sand beaches, excellent snorkeling opportunities, and variety of locally owned outdoor cafes and affordable beach bungalows all make it an excellent destination for those looking for adventure as well as those interested in a relaxing getaway.
Less developed than it's larger neighbor to the South, Koh Samui, it's still a popular tourist destination, especially during the monthly full-moon parties, which draw thousands of revelers to Koh Pha Ngan's south-side beaches. That side, despite the small size of the island, there is still plenty of room to find peace and quiet and avoid the crowds, if that's not your scene.
You can find unique clothing, jewelry, and other items super cheap in the shopping plazas of the main town of Thong Sala.
If you're not too shy, you can check out the nude beach near Surat Thani.
And a hidden gem on the island is a Chinese temple in the mountains above the northern coast, featuring magnificent carvings and paintings of dragons, mythical figures, and other classic symbols of Buddhism and Daoism. A must-see!
If you find yourself in Thailand, I highly recommend venturing down to this beautiful spot!
