A Fortified Walled Port City From The Phoenician Period
The city of Akko, also known as Acre, is a walled city located at the northern most end of Haifa Bay. The city dates back to the Bronze Age and the time of the Crusaders. During the 1950's and 1960's there were many significant findings from the ancient city of Akko, which is below the present city. Additional finds were unearthed during the 1990's.
Akko Templers Knights Halls
Akko Templers Knights Halls, are the remains of what was the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem. It is an amazing ancient pathway of halls. These halls are enormous and were built by the “Hospitallers,” of Saint John’s Order of The Hospitals. The outdoors can be especially hot, but these underground halls are cool and comfortable. This is an exciting experience in living history!
Crusaders who were traveling to Jerusalem would stop here to rest up. The halls would be full of laughter and amazing food. Here, they could dine on the finest food, rest from the journey behind them, and prepare for the journey ahead. There was also plenty of live entertainment.
Akko is known to be the oldest city in the world. It is a city of mystery and intrigue. Take time to walk the alleys and the byways of this amazing city. Explore the old city streets. Take a walk on the old walls. On a nice day you can look out across the water and see the city of Haifa. What a fun place to explore!
