Mount Saint Helens Is A Rumbling Active Volcano
Mount St. Helens is an active and rumbling volcano in the Cascade Mountains of Washington. She last had a major eruption in 1980, but she is currently rumbling, spewing steam, and recharging. She is a volcano wanting to blow again, but for the moment, she is not posing any immediate threat. It has been 38 years since she blew in 1980. Now as we look, she is once again green, things are new and beautiful. The shrubs are short but green and thick. Mount St. Helens is vibrate and flourishing with new growth! There are wildlife of all types returning to their mountain home. Everywhere you turn there are signs of renewal. Mount Saint Helens is returning to life!
Hiking Mount Saint Helens
Most people who desire to hike Mount Saint Helens enter through the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington. Usually climbers choose to take the Monitor Ridge Trail to the top. This is a short 5 mile hike, but it gains over 4,500 feet in elevation. This is a great hike for those with experience, as well as novice hikers that are in really great physical shape. There will be large boulders to scale and it is steep, but when you reach the top, it is all worth it. The view is spectacular!
Those desiring something not so physical can enjoy watching the volcano from the Windy Ridge Observation Deck. Photographers love take every chance to photograph this amazing volcano. Johnston Ridge Visitor's Center has a lot of information and live video. But the best view of all comes from the air! There are helicopter tours for those who really want to see the complete picture. If you are looking for an amazing adventure, this needs to be on your bucket list.
There is no perfect time to visit Mount Saint Helens, every season has it's own beauty. Your decision will be based on what you want to do while your there. So grab your backpack and get ready for the thrill of a lifetime. See you at the mountain.
