Wild Crayfish or Mud Bugs are a Texas favorite. In fact, Crayfish are so well liked that there are many Mud Bug Farms within lower elevation rice fields. Crab Cakes are a Texas specialty, but it seems that the people who live on the Gulf Coast are not the only lovers of Crab cakes. These Crayfish are having a good meal.
Mug Bugs are another Texas temptation. Cajun Spiced Crawfish and Crawfish Noodles are seen on most good restaurant menus. A taste of seasoned Mud Bugs will have you waltzing all over the state.
Another popular taste of Texas is Crab Cakes, done the Texas way. These are easy to make at home, or in anyone's kitchen. One simple way to make these are to combine fresh crab from the Gulf, bell pepper, jalapeno peppers, and cilantro fresh from the garden, cajun hot sauce, egg, mayonnaise, and seasoned bread crumbs. Put in a large bowl. Mix and make into cakes of about 1/2 cup for each patty. Chill until ready. Add 3-4 tablespoons cooking oil and fry 3-4 cakes at a time on medium heat. These are delicious and can be bought at most quality restaurants.
Shrimp is another popular item on the Texas menu. You will see shrimp made in so many different ways in Texas. Is there any way to cook shrimp that you do not see done in Texas? The people of the Gulf love their shrimp.
So while traveling through the area of the Texas Gulf, be sure to check out all the different sea food options. There is nothing like the temptations of the Gulf.
