Sulu-an is a Barangay in a small island in the Philippines located in the province of Eastern Samar. It lies east of Leyte Gulf and west of Emden Deep. Its neighboring islands are Homonhon Island and Manicani Island in the municipality of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. The island was the first site of Anchorage for Ferdinand Magellan's Spanish Armada. People living in Suluan are called "Sulu-anun's".
It is a two hour ride by boat (motorized boat) from the proper town of Guiuan.
view from panaboan cave wherein waves are wildly flashing on the cliffs
As we were travelling going to the beautiful Island, we experienced big waves that almost flashes our motorized boat.
Since it is already facing the Pacific, the waves are so huge and treacherous that there are seasons in the year that it becomes isolated from the mainland. It is during the month of May and two weeks of June that the sea becomes calm.

Island's main Livelihood is fishing.
November 8, 2013, super typhoon Haiyan (localy named Yolanda) hit Region 8. Sulu-an Island was the very first victim of the Super typhoon Haiyan before navigating to Guiuan town proper which had a tremendous impact not only on the island's economy but also to the people's lives.

This two kilometer- stretch island of Sulu-an is composed of beautiful white beaches on the western front and a lighthouse on the southern part of the island which is reached by hiking through thick vegetation and a 490 step staircase from the foot of the mountain. While having the arduous climb, I myself took some of this pictures of our journey while climbing to the light house.

This Island of paradise has also rock formations on the eastern side which faces the Pacific. There you could see a "Giant Footsteps" under the rock formations. Someone says it has a legendary story why the giant leave that footsteps behind.
"Sulu-anun's called this Giant Footsteps"
