Today´s sights
As an astronomer I´m not only chasing after solar eclipses but I was also curious about seeing an impact crater at close range. No, do do not have to go the moon to see a crater.
If you look at the map below, you´ll see that there are many impact craters spread around the globe, BUT most of them are very old and therefore either vanished completely or are not clearly distinguishable as a crater anymore.

Als Astronom bin ich nicht nur daran interessiert Sonnenfinsternissen nach zu jagen, sondern ich wollte auch mal einen Einschlagskrater aus der Nähe sehen. Nein du musst nicht bis zum Mond reisen um einen Krater zu sehen.
Wenn du dir die Karte weiter unten ansiehst, wirst du sehen, dass es es eine Menge Einschlagkrater rund um den Globus gibt. Die meisten sind jedoch sehr alt und sind daher komplett von der Oberfläche verschwunden oder nichtmehr klar als Krater zu erkennen.

The Barringer Crater in Arizona is acutally a pretty small and rather young crater, with a diameter of 1.2 kilometers and an age of 50,000 years. The meteor which formed the Barringer crater had an approximate diameter of 45 meters and a mass of around 300,000 tons.
Der Barringer Krater in Arizona ist eigentlich ziemlich klein und ein eher junger Krater, der Durchmesser beträgt 1.2 Kilomter und das Alter wird auf 50,000 Jahre geschätzt. Der Meteor, welcher den Barringer Krater geformt hat war in etwa 45 Meter im Durchmesser und wog ca 300,000 Tonnen.
Saguaro National Park
Our next stop is Saguaro National Park, the home of the gigantic cactus species "Carnegiea gigantea" which can grow up to 21m tall, and indeed this cactus was impressive. "Carnegiea gigantea" is native to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, the Mexican State of Sonora, and the Whipple Mountains in California.
Unser nächster Halt ist Saguaro National Park, welcher die Riesen-Kaktus-Spezies "Carnegiea gigantea" beherbergt, ein Kaktus, der bis zu 21m hoch wachsen kann und in der Tat sehr imposant wirkte.
