This series will go country by country through my two-year trip. I plan on sharing some experiences, thoughts, and photos of each country that I visited.
Country by Country 10: Slovenia
My dad and I only spent a couple of hours in Croatia before we got our car and crossed the border into Slovenia. We had a nice drive to Ljubljana.
Ljubljana is a beautiful city with a small river running through it. There are tons of weird statues and graffiti. There's also a cable car that goes to the top of a hill.
There are lots of dragons in Ljubljana too.
A strange door on a church. To me it kind of looks like something from the movie Aliens.
A cool looking statue.
A nice pedestrian zone in Ljubljana.
A river in Ljubljana.
Creepy statues.
A nice street with columns.
We took a day trip from Ljubljana and went to the biggest cave in Europe. It was cool, but I spent way too much of my memory card figuring out that all cell phone pictures in caves suck. It's like a law of physics or something. I don't have any cave pictures that look like anything.
After the cave, we went to a castle that was built into a different cave. I was able to get some photos of that.
A castle built into the mouth of a cave.
A view from the castle.
After a couple nights in Ljubljana, we drove to Lake Bled for a night or two. Lake Bled is a gorgeous area with a bright blue lake that has an island with a church on it.
My dad looking at Lake Bled.
The weather wasn't very good when we arrived, but it started clearing before we finished walking around the lake.
Lake Bled is known for these unique boats. I believe there is a law that forbids other kinds of boat. I might be wrong about that.
A beautiful place for a little fishing.
I've got a thing for boats. What can I say?
More fishing on the lake.
The crystal clear water of Lake Bled.
Beer and boats? If this is wrong, I don't want to be right.
While we were at Lake Bled, my dad and took a ride on one of the boats to the island. It was OK, but the best views are from the shore of the lake and not from the island. There wasn't much on the island besides a church and a souvenir shop.
We also went to a gorge for a little hike.
After Lake Bled, it was time to head south to Croatia. We decided to make one last stop in Slovenia on our way south. Looking at the map, you may not realize that Slovenia has a small section of coastline. We stopped in the coastal town of Piran for lunch.
Piran, Slovenia.
Me between two creepy statues.
A nice boardwalk-type area that's great for swimming and eating.
A storm coming in.
After Piran, we went south to Pula, Croatia. You can read about that here. That concludes my brief tour of Slovenia. The next post will be about Bosnia and Herzegovina. I probably shouldn't include it because I was only there for a few hours. I think I'll include it because I've been counting it in my "countries visited" list. It'll be a short post.
Thanks for stopping by!
