Well, I don't blog about my travels, at least I haven't so far, but I thought I'd put together a small tutorial for anyone who is and isn't using SteemitWorldMap yet.
SteemitWorldmap is very easy to use, but you have to know it exists first. And unless you are already in a travelers community or have seen its comments on other blog posts and were curious enough to click on the site's link and poke around, you might not know about it. And that would be a shame, especially if you write about beautiful or interesting places, whether you live there or visited them.
What does SteemitWorldmap do exactly? It associates posts with places. The authors have to take a few extra steps for that, but it is a very easy process.
Let's exemplify with my post here. A few years ago, I was on a tour around Europe by cars with family and friends. At some point we stayed in Nice for a few days, which is a very beautiful city on the French Riviera. We took the time to visit the entire Riviera, but I'll focus here on the tutorial aspect, and how to add a place to SteemitWorldMap. In our case, Nice.
So, let's proceed.
Step 1: Write your post, but don't publish it yet.
(Personal collection)
Step 2: Open SteemitWorldmap website.
Step 3: In the "Search for location" box enter the location your post is about, select the correct one from the dropdown, and hit Enter. In my case, I selected "Nice, France".
Step 4: Down the screen, you'll see a round gray rectangle (button) inside which is written "CODE". Click on it! A small window will appear above it, and the button turns blue and its text to "EXPLORE". If you click again, it will come back to the previous state, so don't worry.
Step 5: In the little window that appeared, you are requested to describe the location you've selected. But first, make sure you click on the map to make sure you pinpoint the exact location. You can zoom in to make it more precise, like a certain tourist sightseeing objective. Then you enter the description. In our case, "Nice from above (from the wheel)". But, of course, I only added an image, the description should be adapted to the situation. For example, if in your post you show images from your vacation to Nice, "My vacation to Nice" can be a good description, I think.
Step 6: Below the description, a certain code is generated automatically. Click on it to copy it to clipboard once you finished writing the description.
Step 7: Paste the copied code anywhere in your post. It shouldn't be displayed when you publish the post (it's my first try, hopefully this information is correct), but it will help SteemitWorldMap identify your objective and create a link between it and the map. You can paste it anywhere, I'll just paste it at the end.
I bet many of you would prefer the video version of the tutorial. Here it is from the SteemitWorldmap website:
I hope it helps you, I remembered about SteemitWorldmap myself after their presentation at Steemfest.
