One Of My Favorite Kauai Beaches
Out past Hanapepe town on the Southwestern side of the island of Kauai is the Salt Pond Beach Park. My husband's family is from Kauai, and while were visiting there a couple of years ago, he took us to many of the beaches. I loved them all, but I honestly think Salt Pond was my favorite. There was just this non-crowded, non-touristy atmosphere at the Salt Pond beach. The only people there on the November day that we rolled in were a few locals, and aside from some excellent snorkeling in the protected cove and soft sand to squish my toes in, I also had the pleasure of watching a crazy human flip an ultralight around in almost gravity defying ways.
Over on the east side of the beach a bunch of locals had their BBQ's set up, and music was flowing. As I descend from rough and rowdy stock, the whole atmosphere reminded me of a logger gathering in my neck of the woods. Food, music, and laughter abounded. The only difference was the amazing tropical setting. That and there was a lady paddle boarding around the cove with her dog
As I sit here this evening, exhausted and chilled from snow removal chores, I find myself reminiscing of warm sands and the tropical Pacific breeze. I'm thinking that perhaps another trip to my husband's ancestral homeland is in the near future, but for now this tired Kat is going to shut her eyes and dream about snorkeling and plate lunches...
And as always, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's pining for the salty trade wind Pacific breeze iPhone.
