Hi there !
A few days ago I had a trip to Kalavryta. My trip started from Athens and the distance to reach there is about 185km, about 2.30-3 hours trip by car. You 'll also have in mind that you will pay a 10euros cost for tolls, one way.
When you reach the main village you 'll be welcomed by tradition sweets like loukoumades and galaktoboureko as also coffee !
Let's start showing a google map photo of the trip from Athens to Kalavryta.
I 'll go on ,showing some sights that attracted my attention getting in the region of Kalavryta
Kalavryta(Καλά-good / βρύες-springs) were build in 1835 on the ruins of the ancient town Kynetha and took its name because the region has many rivers and streams . Today the main village has about 2000 people and their main occupation is tourism, honey and nuts production.
This is how the village looks like, although I believe the pictures may don't show the real beauty of it .
The main square is called Petimezeon square and it's dedicated to Petimezas family who dedicated their life in the cause of liberating Hellas from the Ottomans.
On the left side , to the church there is Zaimis square dedicated to Andreas Zaimis who was from the first men supported the revolution of Hellas in 1821, against the Ottomans.
There is also a monument reminding to local and visitors, the Nazi's holocaust on December 13,1943, with some of the names of the murdered as also the statue of the priest who was murdered too this day .
In the next post I 'll tell you what you can eat , buy and visit in this wonderful place !
Till then , take care !
