Many times I have heard mass in this place. I have spent many hours in deep conversation with God when I am happy and especially when I am beseeched by troubles.A place of refuge not just a historical landmark.
300 years of #Spanish colonisation have brought much heartache to my ancestors. Yet had it not been for that #Christianity would have never reached our soil and with it everything that is related to it like spectacular churches. As much as I am nationalistic I would admit our identity as Filipinos are in part influenced by our colonizers be it in the food we eat, language we speak, music we tune ourselves to and even our moral values.
Since I can visit this place as much as it want to I don't take as many pictures as I would normally do in a travel to a distant place. Guess we are all guilty of this.
Anyhow what makes this special other than its a century old church is that the details I'm every corner.
From the main church to the garden it's very common to see people taking souvenir shots
The church is very convenient located a walking distance to another tourist spot :Cebu cathedral which is also an old church.
Around the church you'd see peddler selling the
statue of the child Jesus which the church got it's name and of flowers or candles to offer as well as others selling just about everything
And because it's near the main road it's also very convenient to visit. You won't get hungry either as just across it is a Filipino brand fast food whose chicken every Filipino child loves
Cebuanos are very religious people. It there is something this place can brag about is Catholicism was introduced here first hence one can see many 100year old plus churches spread across the province. The churches being well publicized are very well maintained as a result. I
When a big earthquake hit Cebu this church suffered damage. But the feel rooted #spirituality of the Cebuanos and the Filipino as a whole made possible the reconstruction of its belfry. Its this strong faith in an omnipotent God that I wish to absorb when I come to this place when I am in my downtime. True enough when I leave it's gate I feel my burdens weighing less
