Something unexpectedly amazing happened when I took a bus from Zimbabwe to Zambia last month. I found a rental on AirBnB that was hosted by a young man who uses all of the earnings to fund a school. He built this school in a small village just outside of Livingstone, Zambia. This is the place where 115 children, many of whom are orphans, come to not only get an education, but even more important, they come everyday to get a good meal.
It cost me $15 a night for a small room with bed that I'm pretty sure had bed bugs, no air conditioning and the shower consisted of me dumping a bucket of cold water on my head, but it was so worth it. I stayed there for 4 nights and was able to visit the kids at the school. They were incredibly happy and curious, I wanted to hug them all and take them home with me. Since sadly this is not a reality, I realized that I could manage to give some of them a day they'd never forget.
You see, these children live in a village where their families farm corn. There are only 4 months in the wet season and once they are done harvesting the crops there is pretty much no activity happening in the village. These children have never left the small village and I wanted to change that.
I decided to arrange for a local safari trip to a small park for Ivor, Henry- a man who volunteers at the school, my friend, myself and 8 children. I would've loved to take all of the children but Ivor's van can't hold over 100 children.
I'm hoping that this post will gain enough success for Ivor to be able to afford to bring all of the children to that park for a safari they all deserve to experience. In addition to funding one of his many projects, like finishing the well so they will have fresh water available to grow vegetables year round.
Here's a video that I put together of the experience!
I hope you can see how much they deserve your help, I've made a bitcoin wallet for Ivor to which you all can make donations. This way he can continue to improve the lives of the children, youth and women in the village.
