Yesterday I drove in Spain from Madrid to Salamanca. When I passed Torrelodones, I saw a castle tower on top of a mountain. This caught my attention so I decided to take a look.
It was quite a climb from the parking lot to get up. The first part there was a staircase but higher up only narrow paths between the rocks.
This tower is built around 950 A.D. to warn when enemy troops approached the area. There supposed to be seven of this kind of towers at strategic points around Madrid.
In the case of an enemy attack the city could be warned with fire signals from the towers. The tower has been a Spanish protected monument since 1983.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to enter the tower likely because it's quite small. However, the great view over the Madrid region made definitely up for this.
I hope you enjoyed my impression of the Watchtower of Torrelodones.
