The next stop is... Copenhagen!
My first time in a Scandinavian country and I was impressed! There is always something new to discover. Not to mention that the Danish culture for green and sustainable society makes you realize that we are all responsible for the environment. I have never seen so many bikes in my life. Literally everyone there cycles. The public transport is very well connected as well, so you have many ways to explore the city.
As most tourists, we started off with a walk along the known sights. A long walk along the river, where most of the restaurants are situated. So many colours, such a vibrant and full of life city!
After a nice stroll, we headed to The little Mermaid statue. Based on the fairy tale of the same name by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the small and unimposing statue is a Copenhagen icon and has been a major tourist attraction since its unveiling in 1913. It's worth checking out!
When visiting Copenhagen, make sure you give yourself at least one day exploring the city by bike. There are more bikes than people there, needless to say everyone cycles regardless of sun, rain or snow. So you are definitely missing out if you don't join them.
The best porridge I have ever had was in Copenhagen and the place is called Groed. Choose between several different porridges with nuts, fresh and dry fruit and the Danish skyr (dairy product). And, no, don't think this is the same boring porridge you have at home. It is so much different and you have plenty of options to pick from.
Last stop- The Freetown Christiania
This is a hippy neighbourhood, that I couldn't miss. You can find original, handmade souvenirs, workshops, art galleries, music venues, cheap and organic eateries, and beautiful nature. It was established by hippies who occupied some abandoned military barracks on the site and developed their own set of society rules, completely independent of the Danish government. You are not recommended to take photos, so you better go there and see for yourself. I managed to take that photo below, which is just at the beginning of the area, but it is a proof of the unique and quirky design of this place.
See you next time!
