Life in Burundi is simple, peaceful, and deeply connected to nature and community. Today I want to share with you how I spend my days living in a small town in Burundi, East Africa. Maybe you’ve never heard about Burundi before, but I hope after this post you will know more about us.
🌞 Morning Routine
My day usually begins around 5:30 AM when the sun is rising. I start with a short prayer or reflection, then help with small chores like fetching water or sweeping around the house. We don't use alarm clocks — the birds and sunshine wake us up naturally.
Breakfast is often simple: sweet potatoes, cassava, or bread with tea. Sometimes we have porridge (called “uburo”).
🌿 Daytime Activities
During the day, people in my town work in different ways. Some go to farms, others to the market, and some students head to school. I personally help my family and also spend time creating content online using Ecency and Hive.
Internet is not always fast here, but I do my best to share stories and ideas. It makes me proud that people from around the world can read my writing.
🕊️ Community and Culture
We love being together. People visit each other without needing an invitation. Sharing is part of our culture — whether it’s food, tools, or stories.
Music is also everywhere: from radios, local drums, and sometimes church choirs practicing.
🌙 Evening Time
In the evening, we sit outside, talk with neighbors, and watch the stars. Sometimes we light a small fire and drink tea or eat cooked bananas (called “ibitoke”).
By 9 PM, many people are already asleep. Life here is calm and natural.
❤️ Final Thoughts
Even if Burundi is not rich in money, we are rich in peace, family, and culture. I hope this post helps you see the beauty of daily life here.
Thank you for reading! Let me know how life is in your country. I would love to learn from you too.
