Aloha! My name is Sophia.
Makapu'u lighthouse is a popular short, paved hiking trail for family and pets and fitness enthusiasts. It is on the south point of Oahu. It's about a five mile distance from Koko Crater, Haunama Bay and Sandy beach. The paved road made it more safe thus popular for tourists and locals alike as a nice scenic walk up to the light house.
On this adventure I will detour you down the trail to a beautiful tide pools oasis below. Although the trail is considered off the beaten path; meaning, not paved and can be dangerous. There are loose rocks and there are no one set trail to go down. But don't worry. We will tread very carefully and slowly.
As you can see the pavement is wide. Although like today it is over-cast, it's still very warm. Water, sunglasses and a hat is highly recommended.
At the trail, looking back you can see Koko Crater. To the left of it is Sandy beach and behind it is Hanuama Bay.
Can you see all those people in a zig-zag line? If you zoom in a little you'll see the ant like trail of people. Well, that is the distance detoured from the paved trail all the way down to the tide pools.
On this Sunday, it does get a little busy but people come and go pretty quickly here.
I'm not a robot. Me doing a little floating around.
The water is so clear that you can see different types of very colorful fish swimming around. I prefer to keep my shoes on just in case I step on sea urchins or sea cucumbers. Yikes!
A view of the Makapu'u lighthouse from here...
