I like to consider myself an aficionado of drinking establishments so when I come across a place that really impresses me, I want to share it.
On my last visit to the UK, I was in Leicester for a few weeks and I spent many days exploring City Centre. I walked into a few bars and pubs, but nothing really caught my eye. That was until I stumbled across King Richard III.
It’s very small. Some would call it cozy. When I was first there were a couple of guys playing pool and it was a struggle to not get rammed in the back of the head by their cues. Regardless, I had a great time and went back several more times. King Richard became my “regular” while I was in Leicester.
This was the one place in CityCentre that didn't feel like I was walking into the British version of Chili’s. It had its own identity. There were lots of football (soccer to us Americans) banners hanging on the walls and two huge England flags on the ceiling.
The drinks were priced right and poured a nearly perfect pint of Guinness. I was washing them down with a shot of Bushmills, and everything was right with the world for the few hours I spent there.
I will be heading back to the UK later this year and King Richard III pub is top of the list for places to visit. If you ever find yourself in the East Midlands of England head on over Leicester and visit King Richard III and enjoy a pint.
And while you are there you can view the actual skeleton of King Richard III as they found his bones after digging up a parking lot. this was such a big deal that the city has now turned it into a tourist attraction. You see signs for it throughout the city.
