My partners and I had a business trip to Gaborone Botswana during the last two days. What an amazing experience.
Living in Gauteng South Africa, provided us with an amazing opportunity to do something different to the usual travel arrangements which is to rush to an airport sit on a flight, rush to your meetings and then the same story again rushing back to South Africa. We decided to drive to Botswana as it is only a 3 - 4 hour drive from Johannesburg.
I can honestly say, it was yet another experience of a lifetime and Botswana is a beautiful country with the most amazing people.
Early morning
Our trip started very early on 30 May 2017 as our first meeting was at 10:00 and we needed to get through the border at about 09:00. I picked up one of our partners at around 04:15 in Pretoria before going to our other partner. I am a morning person, so waking up early for trips like this doesn't faze me much :)
Botswana
I have been to Botswana before, but to be back there was just amazing. Botswana is well-known for its wildlife and conservation of the wild. We booked average accommodation as we know that during business trips we are usually not at the hotel much as we are usually booked with back-to-back meetings, which ends up that we usually have dinner at a restaurant somewhere and we only get back to our rooms quite late.
We stayed at the Cactus Inn and I would recommend the venue if you are looking for affordable accommodation for one night, but not for a long duration as it is really an average venue. The breakfast which was served was definitely sub-standard. I do however believe that for the price we paid it was worthwhile.
We did a lot of driving as we ventured up north to Mahalapye yesterday to meet Botswana Railway at their head office. They have the most beautiful old Rolls Royce Steem Engine in front of their offices .
Tropic of Capricorn.
On the way back we stopped for a quick picture at the Tropic of Capricorn.
It is me on the right :)
