Centennial forests, turquoise blue rivers that cut throgh gorges, natural pools, traditional villages, hospitable people, and delicious food made from local ingredients. Yes, this place exists in Europe and is in Greece: its name is Zagorohoria.
Zagorohoria:
Zagorohoria is located in the northwest of the country and is formed by a group of 46 mountain villages in which the few remaining inhabitants have decided to preserve the custom and traditional architecture.
Ioánina:
Ioánina, also known as Yánena, Yánina or Jánina is the capital of the peripheral regional unit and is a perfect place to locate if you visit Zagorohoria. One of its main tourist attractions is Lake Pamvótida.
Vikos-Aoos National Park:
Many visitors to Zagorohoria, and especially tourists, are attracted by the tranquility and wild nature of Vikos-Aoos National Park.
To visit the Vikos-Aoos National Park it is advisable to have your own car ... and be prepared to do some curves!
The park is home to large mammals like the bear or wolf, which however are difficult to spot. But if you want to have a chance to see them, it is worth to try the 12 km trekking through the Vikos gorge.
"Kolymbithres"
Having hiked a few days ago through the Samaria Gorge and despite finding this option very interesting, we prefered to have a bath in the "Kolymbithres".
"Kolymbithres" are natural rock pools. The water is cool, but it is well worth a bath in them. Also, the views are spectacular !!
