Interlaken is a picturesque town sandwiched in-between two gorgeous lakes on one side (Interlaken means between lakes) and various swiss alps on the other side. With a population of around 5,700 people you're bound to run into more tourists than locals on your journey. Though when you do see a local, they're calm and friendly people.
Why go to Interlaken? See below.....
Oh look! It's Rob!......Interlaken is one of the most stunningly beautiful places that I have ever been to. You can go for an amazing MOUNTAIN HIKE like Rob and I did (click the link to read about our hike up Harderkulm https://steemit.com/travel/@josephmcconnell/hiking-harderkulm-tips-and-pictures). Or you can walk around the town and find some amazing things.....
Wait for it.......
Was that a vending machine that serves GRILLED CHEESE? YES! And Cheeseburgers! For a vending machine cheeseburger... it was really, really good. I think there's an actual toaster inside (as opposed to a microwave) because the bread came out nice and crispy. It was awesome. Besides eating delicious vending machine food you can also go for a walk around the lakes.
What a view! In warmer weather you can just head over to either one of the lakes and jump in for a swim.
It was a little too cold for swimming this time but not too cold to admire the scenery.
It's a short 10-15 minute walk over to the lake, which is nice because, depending on your route, you'll walk through the middle of town on your way there. If it's a weekend and the weather is nice you're destined to see an outdoor market where they'll be selling food, clothing & various trinkets.
Want to try horse sausage and cheese? Go ahead. Buy some from the local stall.
Yes, I ate the horse meat but that doesn't make me a bad person. I'm just open to trying new things. After refueling, head on over to OUTDOOR INTERLAKEN where you can sign up for various outdoor activities including NIGHT SLEDDING.
Sledding around in the complete darkness in the Swiss Alps is a pretty cool experience.... but if you're not into that you can pop over to BALMERS HOSTEL NIGHT CLUB for some dancing and drinks and making silly faces.
And if that's a little too young and raucous for you....head on over to the much quieter THE 3 TELLS Irish pub for a pint and some fish n' chips, made with fresh caught local fish. It's pretty unbelievable.
Or if you're feeling nature bound like I usually am.....get some rest and wake up early so you can go hang out with your favorite tree stump.
Tree stumps of formerly amazing trees deserve some respect as well. Haven't you read 'The Giving Tree' ??
Rob seemed to prefer this melting snowman, which is fine.
Thanks for reading. I hope you've enjoyed this nice little day trip around Interlaken.
I look like a cardboard cutout, don't I?
Upvote, Follow & Resteem. All that good stuff. Thanks.
