Soria, in spite of being one of the smallest provinces of the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León and in good part of its boundaries, unfortunately, also one of the most punished by that unstoppable pandemic that is the phenomenon of depopulation, results , paradoxically, one of the richest in History, in artistic and cultural heritage and in natural corners of the most varied, splendid, overwhelming and certainly mysterious.
In this regard, there is no doubt that one such place, is none other than the birth of the Abión River, popularly known as La Fuentona or the Eye of the Fuentona.
We have to place this extraordinary natural gift, five kilometers away from Calatañazor - a town rich in history, which still retains much of its medieval aspect, to the point that it was the ideal setting for that great Orson Welles classic, which is the film Chimes at midnight- within the municipality of Muriel de la Fuente.
In this term and on the way to the entrance of this small natural park, a small Romanesque hermitage, dedicated to the figure of Santa Maria, shows us some eschatological peculiarities that go back also to medieval times: the burials, type niches, excavated in the same slope of the depression on which it sits.
The approximately 500 or 600 meters that separate the Interpretation Center of the Eye of the Fuentona, constitute a natural scenario of pleasant journey, where one has the impression - observing the peculiarities of the cliffs and mounds that surround it - of thousands of years ago. years a spirit specially endowed with sensitivity for gardening, planted with something more than care, an extraordinary garden, leaving as inheritance for posterity, part of the fertilizer of their vital breath, which possibly lead downstream a waters, cheerful and crystalline, They stand out for their unusual level of purity.
Regarding this, it is still a peculiar detail to highlight, that this kind of lunar crater where the earth bleeds in waves of life, has surprising colors, which vary in interesting colors, where blue and green prevail, that give it an eminently marine aspect.
This question, far from being free, forms another of the peculiar characteristics of the place, because the crater is based on an authentic labyrinth of subterranean galleries, on which it is theorized with a possible connection with the sea, hundreds of kilometers away.
In fact, during the years 2002-2003, the team of the program Al filo de lo imposible, did some explorations in these caves, penetrating only a few kilometers into this enchanted world. And curiously, the program usually present it as a continuation to another of its extraordinary exploration adventures, such as the Mayan cenotes.
