I finally made it Taiwan! After I got off the airplane and had some breakfast, my aunt brought me to Dalongdong Bao-An Temple. As Chinese New Years is approaching, people are visiting temples to give offerings for the new year.
Growing up in America, I do not visit temples often, so it was pretty special to be able to visit such a sacred place. This temple was built in 1760, during the Ching dynasty. It was one of the three major temples in Taipei during the Ching dynasty. The construction of this temple was quite small, due to limited funds.
In 1805, the neighborhood around Dalongdong Bao-An Temple raised enough money to reconstruct the temple to be much more grand. They completed in 1830.
People come to visit this Temple to pray for good health and good fortune. It was such a cool experience to learn about Buddhist culture from my aunt. We even got to give an offering to ward off the bad spirits and to help bring good fortune to the new year.
I hope you find this video fun and educational!
Love,
Karen
