Would you like to join me as I show you the top of the Nufenen Pass? Let's go!
Last week we met some new friends who were visiting from Florida. They wanted to see the the Swiss Mountains so we decided to take the trip from Airolo in Ticino to Urichen in the canton of Valais.
What a great place to meditate on this world and my place in it! The temperature at the bottom of the pass was a sizzling 32°C while here at the top I enjoyed the cooling 15° air!
Some Quick Facts about the Neufenen Pass
- It is called Novena in Italian
- At 2478 meters it is the second highest paved mountain pass in Switzerland
- It has only been opened to motor vehicle traffic since 1969!
The road up the pass provides wild hairpin turns and is used as a challenge by many cyclists! Photo Credit

The lichen which graces the boulders at this elevation has a beauty all of its own!
If you ever visit Switzerland my advice is "don't take a pass on taking a pass"! Once you get to the top take the time to stop, look and contemplate. You'll be glad that you did!
I hope that you enjoyed this article about taking a pass!
Until next time,
