We crossed Sicily by Train and found ourselves in a different world.
Palermo
This is an amazing city with so much to see and eat. The markets are amazing. Palermo also serves as a very convenient base for exploring the surrounding areas of Western Sicily. While in Palermo make sure you try the Arrancini as they are from here. They also make a thick crust pizza here with breadcrumbs on top, so tasty!
Cefalu
This little town is EXTREMELY popular with Italians in the summer. I felt so white on the beaches next to all of these perfectly brown people, but it is an amazing place. This town also has a fascinating history with a really cool fortress built on top of a rock. It is a tough walk in the heat. Take water and snacks.
Zingaro National Park
So many beautiful places in Sicily. This national park has several different treks you can do. The admission is 5 Euros and there is a water fountain by the ticket counter - no more inside the park, so fill up!!! We chose the crazy path straight up the mountain which offered mazing views, but was not so easy in the heat. Most people opt for beach hopping along the coastal path which is rather pleasant.
