Today I transported 3 Chinese visitors to Marina del Rey who only spoke Mandarin. Thank goodness for Google translate as it enabled us to communicate. With a desire to be accommodating I said:
"Farewell my concubine is an opera that became a movie. Have you heard of it?" 告別我的妃是一部成為電影的歌劇。你聽說過嗎
They responded with “No”
Then I asked: “Would you like to listen to the soundtrack?” 你想听音樂嗎
They responded with: "OK."
So I play the first track and about half way through the grandmother sitting in back of me asks: 你能玩鄉村音樂嗎? “Can you play country music?”followed by 美國鄉村音樂 “American Country music.”
So for the next hour, they listen to me sing along to the entire album of Always & Forever by Randy Travis.
Today I learned that along with the joy of personal discovery, comes the joy of helping others discover something that I already know.

The song from that album that put him on the map:
A Chinese movie about an Opera of the same name (for subtitles click CC, then the gear (Settings) and select China(Chinese)>>English)
Now back to coding Typescript and AngularJS with me...but it is nice to leave the console and do something else from time to time :)
