General Prayuth Chan o-cha told the Thai media yesterday (May 15) that he would do anything "better and better" if elected Prime Minister.
For the time being, he emphasized, he would not speculate about it himself. He further added that Parliament has not yet been opened and that of course it will also depend on the votes of the Members to be re-elected.
He said he did not understand why critics would not judge his government's achievements in the past five years. Prayuth referred to all of his government initiated infrastructure megaprojects, as well as the improvement of the digital economy and the general trade prospects for Thailand.
When asked if he was ready to accept the post of Prime Minister, he turned to the questioning reporters and said, "What then? Do I have to report sick immediately if the job is offered to me? I do not know it yet. If you trust me, I'm ready to take over as Prime Minister. "
Asked by reporters what his first job would be after being elected prime minister, he said he would first re-establish peace in parliament. All MEPs needed to treat each other with respect and to work for the good of the country, he added.
A reporter then asked him how he would define being prime minister.
General Prayuth Chan o-cha replied that he would "make things better and better", adding at the same time that his definition of work was "breathe and do good for the people of the land".
