So summer has gone ... again and autumn has arrived. The perfect time to go hiking in Bavaria. It is not too cold or too warm outside, the trees are super colorful and the hiking trails are pretty much empty (at least during the week).
That´s why my girlfriend Elena and I decided to go for 2 days and stay in the apartment at lake Riegsee next to Murnau and enjoy the beautiful weather there.
It would be the perfect time for our dog to get some experience in hiking, now that he is already 1 year old, so he is allowed to do longer hikes, and also he is listening more than before ;)
So early in the morning, we went from our home in Gröbenzell to the apartment at lake Riegsee.
There we left all our things, had some breakfast, and then went to the starting point: The restaurant "Forsthaus Höhlmühle" where the Höhlmühle Rundweg Tour starts. It is a pretty easy hiking trail with only about 230m rise and about 8km long. The highest point is at only 780m and all in all it takes about 3hours to do it. So it was perfect for us to enjoy the good weather and for our dog Chapo to start getting experience in this.
As you can see on the map this path can be taken both from the Gasthaus Höhlmühleand from the village Aidling.
We started at the restaurant and walked straight up towards the forest, crossing the street and the water.
The first 20 minutes is a walk through the forest, where you can hear several birds and have a lot of colors from the trees around. We were the only people there, so Chapo could run on the long leash.
At every crossing, there was a sign, so it was impossible to get lost.
After 1 hour we came out of the forest again and were surrounded by pastures, cows, and sheep.
The southern section of the path offers wonderful views of the lake Riegsee, the Murnauer Moos, and the Alpine panorama. The sky was all blue with almost no clouds and the sun was just nice. A perfect day for this hike!
Back at the northern part, we entered the forest again. Here we did come to rest, listen to the birdsong, and were breathing the scent of the forest.
Chapo finally got used to the forest and the freedom ;). So he was calm enough to let him walk free.
Almost halfway through the tour, we saw a sign: to the grotto
It sounded interesting so I googled it. But I couldn´t find any information about it. That made me even more curious and we decided to go and explore the trail to the grotto.
It was a very rocky trail, difficult to walk.
After 20 minutes the trail suddenly stopped. There was no further and the only thing we could see was some water on the side. A beautiful spot to be, but still not even close to what I expected to find ;)
So we did a small break and then walked back to the main road to follow our trail back to our car.
Almost at the parking lot, there was a place where we could drink some water (including Chapo) and then we were ready to go home.
In the afternoon we enjoyed the sun at lake Riegsee and had some lunch before we called it a day.
The perfect end on a perfect day.
Cheers,
Liz
