Monument to the Unknown Bureaucrat
I thought I'd start out this short series of posts from my recent journey in Iceland with this photo of a sculpture which really struck me as being iconically Icelandic.
Icelanders have no particular love for bureacracy and are a wonderfully outspoken people, boasting the oldest parliament in the world. The Alþingi, (anglicised as Althing or Althingi) is the national parliament of Iceland.
and I were exploring Reykjavic one day, and we stumbled upon this gem, outside the Iðnó Theatre.
A plaque embedded in the stone at the man's feet reads:
Óþekkti Embættismaðurinn
The Unknown Bureaucrat
1993
Magnús Tómasson
I had to sit down and appreciate just what sort of society would celebrate making fun of bureaucracy. :)
Oh yeah, the same society in which the Pirate Party is leading in the polls, and which, on October 29th as Icelanders go to the polls, will likely form the next Icelandic government! ;)
I will be writing more about the Pirate Party and some of their wonderful initiatives, in upcoming posts... stay tuned!
I just quit my job to go full Steem ahead while also pursuing freelance film production opportunities! I'm hastily saving up for #steemfest. If you want to see me there, in what could be the start of a European P2P tour, please support my posts. :) Today is my last day punching a clock, and I will be posting daily!
