Hermanus is a small town on the southern coast in the Western Cape, South Africa. It lies along Walker Bay and is about 100 kilometers southeast of Cape Town.

It is well-known for its whale watching and each September hosts the annual whale watching festival to celebrate the return of the Southern Right Whales to the Walker Bay area for calving and mating.
I was there last April and unfortunately missed the whales. South Africa also starts to cool down towards the end of April as we head into our winter so it was a little cold (by South African standards). Nevertheless, it was a relaxing break in a beautiful, quiet place which people still refer to as "the village".

Fishing at the Old Harbour. The local kids joined in and were elated when we gave them our hooks and fishing supplies. We catch and release. Since then I no longer fish and I'm a vegetarian. Even though we would release it must still be pretty traumatic for them.
