Today is Sunday which reminds me of this photo. "No matter how blue, I'll get to you." was the caption I used when I posted it on Facebook. One of my friends said it is the caption that carried the photo to stand out. Knowing that I am single, they got curious about who the "you" is. Teasing started. I did good at sidetracking the subject. I told them it is suspense.
The stairway is actually the path to a giant cross on top of hill at Minalungao National Park in Nueva Ecija, Philippines. The hike to The Cross is an exciting exercise of 1000 steps to the top. It is not something to be scared of by those who are not outdoor enthusiasts because it is a slight climb with the cemented pathway. Though, it can be challenging if the hike is done somewhere near midday especially during summer because of the heat. Regardless of the timing, it is recommended that hikers bring a bottle of water.
I read somewhere that The Cross is made of glass. When we made it to the top, I realized it is not just made of glass but mirror. Then I thought of the very good sense: to get to the top and reflect about yourself. It is cool and serene at the top. There is a shed surrounding the cross. The Cross is towering high and it looks mighty in a clear blue sky. It is a nice spot to indeed take a break and have self-reflection.
There are more activities to enjoy in the park aside from hiking to the Cross. Beat the heat by swimming in the river. Raid caves. Traverse the river from above through the zip line. Explore and have floating picnic along the Peñaranda River while enjoying the view of limestone cliffs with the bamboo rafts. Try cliff diving. Or, simply have picnic along the river banks. Name it! You got more than enough to keep the day busy.
