If suddenly you find yourself in Pskov - do not rush to leave. Better stay for a day more and go to Pechory. To go there from Pskov only 2-3 hours by bus. Believe, there is something to see!
Today we will visit one of the unique places in Russia: Pskovo-Pechorsky Holy Assumption Monastery. It would seem that unusual? But have you ever seen monasteries surrounded by fortress walls? Before I got to Pechory I did not see it, and I can say that the view of this monastery is really impressive.
This is not just a monastery, but a real fortress, intended for defense. The monastery was founded in the distant year of 1473 and has never been closed since.
Approaching the walls of the monastery, we immediately did not understand where the entrance is. And we had enough time in reserve, so we decided to bypass the monastery around.
We never regretted this decision, even though had to pass a lot. But it was time to admire the fortress.
Here you feel yourself in some ancient historical era, several hundred years before your birth.
Mikhailovsky Cathedral is seen beyond the wall. To him we will come up a little later.
It seems to me that the same landscape could be seen several hundred years ago..
The monk is walking along the road. And around the birches and fields. Usual Russian picture!.
And here is the verst column.
Climb to the hill and we have a view inside the walls of the monastery.
Going around the monastery, we still did not understand where the entrance for visitors. At first we thought that the main entrance here:
But it was closed there. I had to ask the locals.
The time was approaching dinner, so first of all we visited a buffet and an icon shop. At the buffet at the monastery ate delicious and inexpensive.
Continuation in the next post!
