The Neretva flows through Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as Croatia. Its name come from the Indo-European root "ner", which means "to dive"
It is the largest karst river in the Dinaric Alps, with a total length of 143 miles (230 km), of which 129 miles (208 km) are in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the final 14 miles (22 km) are in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County of Croatia. it’s seen flowing under the Old Bridge in Mostar.
The Neretva river has diverse ecosystems and habitats, flora and fauna,and ofcourse unique cultural and historic heritage, which makes it notable among the rivers of the Dinaric Alps region. This view, pictured below, reveals its striking clear, emerald waters.
Neretva river is a perfect example of natural beauty, stunning canyon, untouched environment and all of this makes it the most beautiful river in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The best way to experience the beauty of this place is to enjoy some adventure. By that we mean rafting on the rapids of the river. This unique river adventure starts from a small town of Konjic, and it is truly unforgettable experience that can't be missed by fans of extreme sports and all those who wish to enjoy quality time in nature.
