Salmon, Steelhead trout, native trout, black bear, mink, partridge, white tailed deer and moose.
The purpose of this trip was to see my family, possibly some for the last time, before moving to the Philippines. My mother and father are both from this area. As a child I use to spend about 2 months out of every summer here. When I was very young, nobody had indoor plumbing or a TV set. People are very friendly and like to talk.
I decided also to spend a little time Salmon fishing. I caught a few trout but no salmon until we had a real good rain and the water level in the river raised significantly. It was my last day to fish as the next day we would go home. Tomorrow 1100 miles of driving. Maybe a two day drive.
Early in the morning I headed out with my uncle Rick! As soon as we got near the water a decent salmon jumped! Wow! Now we are talking! After a few casts I hooked a Grisle. A Grilse is a salmon that returns to where it was born after 1 year at sea. The Atlantic Salmon does not die after spawning, but returns year after year and getting larger each year.
About an hour later I hooked and landed the largest salmon I ever caught. 23 pounds or 10.5 kilos. Then after a little while I hooked another Grilse. This is the one in the photograph!
As a reference, I took a photo of this small salmon next to my wife’s leg! She is a Filipina!
One photo with my uncle Rick.
If you want excitement, constant noise and entertainment. This is not the place for you!
If you love to fish, love fresh air, hummingbirds, home cooking. If you like to unplug! This place is perfect!
Thank you for reading my blog!
God bless!
