So I refused to look this up while I was staying at the hotel. But as soon as I got home I wanted to check it out.
French Lick Resort was built in 1845. And it feels like a place that was built in 1845. Sure, parts have been renovated, but a lot of the original detailing is still there. They even pay tribute to their history by having an old time Big Band playing in the lobby.
The story is that the original owner still hangs about. Apparently he likes to run the elevators.
My room was all the way down the long hallway. In my mind I could hear the twin girls laughing as they invited me to play with them. All that was missing was a little Redrum on the wall.
Really, the only thing that really creeped me out was how incredibly dark my room got. There was no ambiant light at all. I tried turning one of the lamps on, but they were too bright. So I found an app on my tablet that gave off the orange glow of a salt lamp and let that run all night.
Apparently the haunts here are pretty benign. Aside from elevator shenanigans, the front desk has a habit of getting calls from unoccupied rooms, and occasionally people hear the sounds of a party with music and chatter, only to find that the rooms the noise seems to be coming from are empty.
Have you ever stayed in a haunted place? Are you a believer that spirits roam old buildings? I guess I am a open minded skeptic. I'm willing to believe in the possibility, but I'd just as soon never come face to face with a haunting myself. Haha
Check it out, if you dare. Do a search for French Lick Resort haunting and see what you turn up. Just dont invite Jack Nicholson to be your winter guest there!
