Hello, lovely steemians!
I am back with my Throwback Thursday series. Today, I am going to share with you some pictures of Harpa, the concert hall and conference centre in Reykjavik, that I took when I was there last December.
I had a ten hours layover in Keflavik, so I decided to use the opportunity to visit Reykjavik, which is only about an hour long bus trip away. My flight arrived early morning and I took the first bus after, which may have not been the best idea, because at the time I got to Reykjavik, almost everything was still closed (it was Sunday morning, and most of the stores opened after 10am, I arrived just after 7). Also, the daylight period in Reykjavik in December is from 11am to 3pm, which I missed.
I approached Harpa from Reykjavik Old Harbour. There was a construction going on around it, so it was a bit of a hustle to get there.
Harpa is a fairly new building, it was officially open in 2011. Here you can see the welcome sign. Beside it being a concert hall and a conference centre, you can visit gift shops on the ground floor and exhibitions in basement floors.
I wasn't sure if I would be able to get inside, because it was early morning and the building didn't seem to be open, but it was, and I was happy to walk around. Most gift shops and the cafe were closed and the only other people I met there was cleaning staff and the lady in information centre/travel agency/gift shop that was open. They also have a model of Harpa displayed in Harpa!
This is probably the most impressive shot that I could take in the building. Harpa is now famous for appearing in the episode of Netflix series Black Mirror (I didn't watch it, but I still like the space).
On my way out, I took a shot looking up. I like the result!
I spent only a couple of hours in Reykjavik and Harpa was one of the places I saw there. I hope to get back one day for a longer trip, not only to visit the city, but also beautiful Icelandic countryside. What about you? Have you ever been to Iceland?
