Where is
now and why is he recently less active on Steemit?
Well, for the past 2 weeks, I was in the BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG region, around Baden-Baden, Germany, where I will continue to be for the next 2 weeks from now. More exactly I will stay in Neuweier a small village and district under Baden-Baden, located in the foothills of the Black Forest.
I am here to work for one month but I try to profit by the little free time that I have and visit the amazing sites in this area so after my first walk through the center of Neuweier during the first Suday here, the first thing that gave me an amazing feeling is the sunset over the church of the village, and image that I really want to share with you all.
The Baden-Baden district of Neuweier was first documented in 1297 and incorporated on 1 July 1972 [1]. Located at an altitude of 182 m, the village has a population of 2098 and covers an area of 606 hectares. 334 hectare of forest and 124 hectare of vineyards.
Neuweier belongs besides Varnhalt and Steinbach to the Baden-Baden Reblandgemeinden. Older than the core name. the place is the formerly spatially separated hamlet from Schneckenbach, which today has grown together with Neuweier. The first mention of Schneckenbach dates from 1253.
Old style fränkisches Haus preserved well
The second think that impressed me is the old houses that are quite well preserved in this area, at their best condition in the same old German style which in this area that is very close to the French border can also be called fränkisches Haus (Franconian house). This German houses first appeared in the Middle Ages as a type of farmhouse built as an all-in-one house with living quarters and livestock stalls under one roof and with entrances to most of the rooms down one side and with the main entrance door at the side of the building.
Hotels and Pensions in the specific Winery style of the Baden-Baden area
Another thing that impressed me in this area, is the hotels and pensions all in a Winery style that really make you feel that you are in an area that is for real made of vineyards, grapes and wines. Very interesting is that most of the hotels in the area, and not only the hotels but also the houses of the inhabitants are preserving some of the old machines and instruments that have once served well for the harvesting and preparation of the grapes and the wine, and using them as art objects.
The Neuweier Castle - Located In One Of The Best Wine-Growing German Regions
Another landmark that got my attention is the Castle of Neuweier, which based on what I read, it was built around the 12th century as a moated castle, which for me is amazing knowing how much wine history is inside this castle. The location of it is also amazing as it is positioned at the foot of the mountain wall at the edge of Baden-Baden and is rounded by huge vineyards. As far as I've seen the incredible building is one of the few remaining lowland castles in the area and is an amazing touristic attraction that has a fine quality restaurant inside, which is serving tourists since 2007.
My first impression about this place...
After my first two weeks here I would say that Neuweier can be framed as one of the best regions for wine-growing as it is bathed in a sea of grapevines with an amazing infrastructure for that purpose. With more than one fifth of the community’s total area used to grow grapes and with amazing hotels, castles and landmarks to visit the place is worth to be visited not only in this period of time but also in the spring when I imagine the huge vineyards are full of flowers and producing a heaven atmosphere around.
This being said, as far as my free time allows me, I will soon continue with the next part about this region, so stay tuned if you liked this part.
