Something I love about Iceland is its randomness. And its extreme variety all on one tiny island. This post is about our drive along Northern Iceland, almost at a town called Mývatn. For the past hour the terrain had been rocky, with only gray and dust in view. There were strange rock formations that seemed to be from other planets. It was an amazing landscape. Then, just as we were wondering if we'd ever see land other than rocks again in our lives, a giant crater sprung up from nowhere. Of course we stopped to check it out.
We climbed it and were so surprised when we got to the top. Suddenly we were in the Bahamas. Inside the crater, was a pool full of bright blue water, that looked to be tropical. It really was some sort of geothermal and maybe toxic lake, but still, it was beautiful. If you look closely you can see silhouettes of people walking around the crater, and just how high up it is. The water was super clear and all I wanted to do was dive in! But, I didn't, cause, who knows what was in there...
Where else can you find such awesome landscapes and random craters filled with tropical water!? Just on more thing I love about the wonderful country of Iceland.
