Knez Mihailova is a pedestrian street that follows the route of the main street of the Roman city Singidunum. This area which is now the heart of Belgrade, has remained in ruins for centuries until it was rebuilt by the Ottomans in the 16th century. A walk down the beautiful pedestrian street reveals Belgrade's diversity and creates surprising encounters. An Orthodox priest, listening with great enjoyment to the music played by two young students from the nearby Belgrade university, is but one example.
